The Python programming language was created by Guido van Rossum. He began working on Python in the late 1980s, and the first version, Python 0.9.0, was released in February 1991. Guido van Rossum continued to lead the development of Python and was often referred to as the "Benevolent Dictator For Life" (BDFL) of the Python community.
Guido van Rossum's leadership and vision played a significant role in shaping the language's design principles and guiding its development. He remained the primary decision-maker for the language until he stepped down from that role in July 2018. Since then, Python's development has been overseen by a group of core developers within the Python community, following a more collaborative model.
